3 Things to let go in your Career

Header 3 things to let go in your career

There are unnecessary things that we inadvertently take with us in life. Life like our careers is a journey- pack light and let go of these 3 things.

1/3 things to let go in your Career

Holding on to other people’s opinions:

Opinions are free. And they are pretty much an opinion about anything in life. There will certainly be an opinion about your career strategy. Probably form the most unwanted person. Sorry, I know this to be true.

No matter how well-intentioned people are, when there share their opinions with you, you must just ignore them.

You need to be a guardian at the gatepost of your mind. Apply a thick fat filter to what your well-meaning community will dish out to you. Because these will not serve you.

Unless the opinion comes from a qualified mentor, professional guide, or trusted source. Aka someone who has your best interests at heart. Just let go.

Let them keep their opinions.

You certainly do not need too.

“The greatest fear in the world is of the opinions of others. And the moment you are unafraid of the crowd you are no longer a sheep, you become a lion. A great roar arises in your heart, the roar of freedom.”
― Osho,  The Joy of Living Dangerously

Your path is unique and different and special. Just like you! So, checking in with your intuitive knowledge about who you are and what you really desire is essential to let go of the opinions of others. Because then you will always have a connection with your truth!

2/3 things to let go in your Career

Thinking that ‘It’s impossible for me too …’

  • ….get paid what I want,
  • ….work half day,
  • ….work at a certain company, not work as a certain company,
  • ….work from home,
  • ….love my work,

Self-limiting, damaging and no good. Playing small and allowing yourself to ever comes of assuming a what negative people defend as realism.

If ‘it’s impossible for you too….’ before you’ve even started, then spare the world and don’t bother.

Let small thinking go. Instead fill your mind, heart and soul with the power of your own possibility.

It is so much lighter and easier to carry around all day.

If you’ve ever doubted yourself, you know how crippling it can be.

The missed opportunities, the indecision, the quiet torment – it stops us from living our best lives.

But self-doubt is really just a subconscious belief caused by childhood trauma. If we change our beliefs, we can shed self-doubt and develop self-confidence instead.

Legendary transformational hypnotherapist, Marisa Peer, shares three powerful words that can challenge and erase self-doubt,

I Am Enough.

These powerful words can completely change our lives. Her words helped me develop the confidence and courage to go after what I truly want from life.

And it can do the same for you too.

3/3 things to let go in your Career

Doing the same thing you have always done and expecting a different result:

This is the definition of insanity according to Albert Einstein.

Einstein was one of the most significant scientific geniuses of the 20th century. His theories helped scientists break through some of the barriers to our understanding the physical world and the universe. He also contributed greatly to the philosophy of science. Is it any wonder, therefore, that the quote, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” is attributed to him?

What may have served you in 2017 in your career strategy, is certainly not going to keep you on track now. The world is changing at a rapid pace, and so should our approach to our careers.

Let old habits go.

Finding a career that we love requires a growth mindset.

Renowned Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck identified the fixed versus growth mindset.

If we hold a fixed mindset, we assume that our character, intelligence, and abilities are static and can’t be changed. This could manifest in us believing that we cannot, for instance, influence our future wellbeing.

A growth mindset is one in which we see we have capacity to change. We may, for instance, believe that wellbeing can be achieved through increased effort and skill development. Research has shown that a growth mindset allows people to navigate stress and challenges better and can lead to higher levels of wellbeing.

Tick these 5 points off to continue to nurture your growth mindset;

  1. Stay open to learning
  2. Preserve through challenges
  3. Embrace Change
  4. Accept Failure is necessary
  5. Focus on the process over the result.

Stay open and stay in tune with your inner truth and take only the essentials with you on your career journey!
